Matchbox Slider Tins

Our 2025 Fall & Winter Matchbox Collection is here!

Wooden matches have sparked more than just fires; they've ignited stories of ingenuity and charm since the early 19th century. Picture the bustling streets of London in the 1820s, where the first friction matches, or "Lucifers," were sold by enterprising street vendors. These tiny sticks of pine or aspen, tipped with a combustible mixture, revolutionized daily life by making fire-starting safe and convenient. As their popularity soared, match manufacturers began to adorn matchboxes with vivid, eye-catching artwork, turning a mundane item into a canvas for creativity. By the late 19th and early 20th centuries, these decorative matchboxes became miniature art galleries, showcasing everything from advertisements to patriotic themes, and adding a spark of elegance to every hearth and kitchen.

Fast forward to the present day, and the charm of wooden matches and decorative matchboxes has been beautifully reimagined with sustainability in mind. Enter the slider tin: a stylish and eco-friendly container that not only preserves the timeless appeal of wooden matches but also promotes environmental consciousness. Made from durable materials and featuring exquisite designs, these tins can be refilled and reused, reducing waste and adding a touch of vintage flair to modern living.

This Fall & Winter we offer a wide selection of utterly charming designs to choose from for any home design or decor.

Measuring 3.6 inches in length, 2.5 inches in width, and 7/16 inches deep, comes with 80 wooden matches which are 2.3 inches long & striker.

Crafted with care by hand and made in small batches at our BC studio, each tin is adorned with antique, retro, vintage, and whimsical imagery, sealed with a hand-poured high gloss resin coating for preservation.

Whether nestled on a coffee table or given as a thoughtful gift, these slider tins embody a perfect blend of tradition and innovation. They remind us that while the methods of striking a flame may evolve, the joy of lighting a match, with its delicate dance of sparks, remains a ritual to be cherished.
